Description
Each pack contains a pre-blended mix of five sett sizes, ranging from 80 x 120mm to 240 x 120mm, creating the natural variation associated with traditional cobbled paving without the inconsistencies of reclaimed stone. The compact mixed-size format is particularly well suited to curved paths and winding garden designs, where the varied units follow bends that larger paving formats can’t accommodate without cutting.
All setts are manufactured to a depth of 65mm and supplied in 1.2m² quantities, so you can order exactly the amount your project needs rather than committing to full packs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between paving setts and cobbles?
Cobbles are naturally rounded stones, whereas paving setts are manufactured or cut into uniform shapes. Both can be used to create a traditional cobbled look, but setts provide a more consistent finish and are often easier to install.
Do I need planning permission to lay paving setts on a driveway?
Planning permission is not usually required for paving projects such as driveways and garden paths. However, requirements can vary depending on factors such as drainage, the size of the paved area, and your property's location. You can learn more in our guide on whether you need planning permission to pave your garden or driveway.
Are these concrete or natural stone paving setts?
These are manufactured concrete paving setts produced in Oxfordshire. They are designed to provide the appearance and character of traditional stone or brick setts paving while offering consistent sizing and excellent durability.
Can I lay paving setts myself, or do I need a professional?
Paving setts can be laid as a DIY project if you have some experience with paving and ground preparation. However, larger areas and driveways may benefit from professional installation to ensure the correct sub-base, levels and drainage are achieved for a long-lasting finish.
What base preparation do paving setts need?
For garden paths and patios, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base of at least 100–150mm is recommended, topped with a sharp sand or mortar bedding layer. Driveways require a deeper sub-base of at least 200mm to handle vehicle loads. Correct drainage and jointing are important in both cases for a stable, long-lasting finish.
Do paving setts need sealing?
Sealing is not required for concrete paving setts in the way it is for natural stone. That said, applying a sealant can make the surface easier to clean and offer additional protection against oil or organic staining, particularly on driveways or in areas overhung by trees. We would recommend Joint-it Proseal, which is a great all round sealer suitable for concrete and natural stone.
How much paving do I need?
Our paving setts are supplied in 1.2m² quantities. To calculate how much paving you need, multiply the length and width of the area you wish to pave to determine the total square metre coverage required.
For example, a path measuring 2m x 5m would require 10m² of paving. We recommend allowing an additional 10% for cuts and wastage, bringing the total requirement to 11m². Based on 1.2 m² per pack, you would need 10 packs to complete the project.
